5 Tips for taking your own images
For new models starting out, it’s important that the images you submit with your application are the best quality possible. In the modelling industry, your photos are everything, first impressions are very important. These tips will help transform your images from selfie to sophisticated.
Simple shots are best. Plain coloured backgrounds are ideal for your application images. Standing in front of a white wall is perfect. Make sure there are no other objects, furniture or other people in the frame. If you are unable to find a plain, light-coloured wall with natural light you can hang a white (ironed) sheet as your backdrop.
Keep makeup and hair to a minimum. Submit at least one headshot with very minimal makeup - if any. Keep hair styles simple and well groomed. If you have long hair make sure to take a photo of your hair down and also pulled back.
Keep clothing simple. Plain-coloured garments photograph best. A simple pair of well-fitting jeans and a t-shirt are perfect for your photos. But any garments that hug your curves are good - we want to see you rocking your figure! If you’re happy to model lingerie and/or swimwear please also include a swimwear shot or tasteful lingerie.
Camera angle and lighting. Make sure you are in the centre of the frame and the camera is pointing directly at you, not upwards or downwards. Use a tripod or have a friend take the images to ensure they are taken straight on. Ensure the wall you are standing in front of, is well lit. Natural lighting is best. Make sure the light is on your face - not coming from behind as this will make your images too dark.
Include 3x headshots and 3x full-length bodyshots. Headshots are usually taken from your chest up and are focused on your face. Include some shots of you smiling and some shots of you in a neutral mood. Full-length body shots need to include your whole body, including shoes/feet. Pick your top photos that highlight your best features. Images must be under 4.5MB.
