Kia Ora and Vannakam! My name is Vaishnavi (a.k.a V). I am a 22-year-old Sri Lankan wahine currently living in Dunedin/Auckland.
I enjoy having a full and satisfying schedule beyond my academic and professional endeavors. My time management skills allow me to enjoy many activities including Bharatnayam styled dance, fitness/yoga, volunteering and hiking. I am a classic extrovert who enjoys socializing, making new contacts and getting involved with the community.
Coming from an ethnic background I found myself constantly being subjected to unrealistic beauty and size expectations. My weight loss journey started in 2018 but took a halt in 2019 where I was in an abusive relationship. Leaving the relationship was hard but what was more difficult was unlearning all the negative things that were said on a daily basis about my body and self. I found my self confidence had really hit rock bottom and I was left with a bunch of insecurities. It was hard to speak up about this as it is seen as ‘taboo’ in our society. In 2021 I made the decision to start my self love journey and focus on myself and my needs. It wasn’t till this year that I really prioritized my health and fitness and finally regained my self confidence.
It has truly been a long road but I have finally built the confidence in my body and fallen in love with the person in the mirror. I want to be a positive role model and inspire other women who have faced similar adversities and show young women that you don’t have to fit the Eurocentric beauty standards society places on us.
I hope to inspire other wahine to join me on this self love journey..
